Lopez Island, WA P.O.L. Hobbies: Beachcombing (rock collecting)

There are thousands of miles of shoreline to explore around Puget Sound in Washington State where I live. But my favorite beach is very small, nestled between rock outcrops 100 feet apart on Lopez Island. Why is it my favorite? A geologist friend once shared with me that those outcrops were hundreds of millions of years apart in “geologic time”. So, when I pick up a rock there, I can’t help wondering what geologic era it’s from and what it has seen all these millions of years before I found it. If only those rocks could talk, what a story they could tell! My book, The Jupiter Stone, reflects just the sort of inspired wonder I experience every time I visit that very special beach.

Does this look like a planet you know? Infinity in the palm of my hand
